COURSE INFORMATION

STRUCTURE 

 

Based on a modular approach with a combination of theoretical and practical content, the course is delivered over 4 days (32 hours) plus home study, totalling approximately, 36 hours.

AIM OF THIS COURSE

 

To provide coaches with the knowledge, skills, and attributes to effectively coach individual lessons in a club setting. The coach will develop coaching skills and the technical & tactical aspects of defence and attack applicable to Development and Talent fencers. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

By the end of this course, you should gain a better understanding of how to:

  • Run groups sessions safely and with a purpose.

  • Plan player-centered sessions for beginners/intermediates within a club setting.

  • Deliver individual weapon-specific lessons/coaching.

  • Deliver sessions using coach process skills.

  • Correct Level 2-specific fencing tactics and techniques.

ENTRY LEVEL RECOMMENDATION

 

  • 18+ with a British Fencing Level 1 or the British Fencing Introduction to Coaching Fencing Award. 

  • Under 18s may be eligible if they have obtained an Introduction to Coaching Fencing Award and are no longer than 6 months away from turning 18 years old. The certificate will not be sent until then. 

PRE-REQUISITES FOR REGISTRATION AS A BRITISH FENCING COACH

 

Please note that British Fencing uses "minimum standards for active coaches" in its coaching framework. If you would like to become a British Fencing Registered Coach, you also are required to hold:

  • A valid British Fencing membership.

  • Current SafeGuard Core certificate or equivalent.

  • Current Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate.

  • A valid criminal records check.
