COURSE INFORMATION

STRUCTURE 

 

The course is based on a modular approach with a combination of theoretical and practical content. The course consists of: 5 days on course delivery (35 hours) plus ½ day home study – approx. 40 hours

AIM OF THIS COURSE

 

This course was developed for coaches with fencers that are taking part in regular competitions, moving from a development phase to a performance phase. The course will re-visit effective coaching within group sessions and will explore different lesson types, with a wider tactical and technical content. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

By the end of this course, you should gain a better understanding of how to:

  • Run Group sessions, with high levels of development and purpose

  • Plan athlete centered sessions for development and performance settings

  • Deliver individual weapon specific lessons/coaching

  • Deliver sessions using high levels of fencing "how" skills

  • Level 3 Foil, Epee, Sabre specific fencing tactics and techniques

ENTRY LEVEL RECOMMENDATION

 

  • Experienced level 2 coaches with the ambition of achieving a Level 3qualification.

  • Level 3 coaches looking to develop their knowledge of another weapon

  • It is recommended that coaches attending have acquired some experience of working with the most talented fencers and demonstrate a willingness and open-mindedness to learn

PRE-REQUISITES FOR REGISTRATION AS A BRITISH FENCING COACH

 

Please note that British Fencing uses "minimum standards for active coaches" in its coaching framework. If you would like to become a British Fencing Registered Coach, you also are required to hold:

  • A valid British Fencing membership.

  • A current SafeGuard Core certificate or Home Country equivalent.

  • A valid criminal records check (Enhanced DBS, PVG or Access NI)

  • A recognised coaching qualification

  • A First Aid qualification or declaration

  • Completed the Coach Profile section on your Sport:80 account

  • Agreed to uphold the BF Coaches Code of Coduct

IMPORTANT DBS INFORMATION

Since this course is held at a PGL site, each candidate must have a valid DBS check certificate in place as a prerequisite to attend. Apply for a DBS check certificate via this form. It can take up to 12 weeks for the process to be completed.

If you do not hold a valid DBS check certificate at the date of the course, we will have to cancel your booking.

Please know that the DBS needs to be valid for the entire duration of the course
